This Week's Beer Tastings!!!

Friday, February 5, 2010
4:30 - 8 p.m.
and
Saturday, February 6, 2010
12 noon - 5 p.m.

Are we supposed to cower in fear at the threat of another impending snow storm? Ha! Ha, I say. The Beermudgeon laughs, nay, chortles at this threat and furthermore declares we will have not one, but TWO beer tastings this weekend! Take that, Mr. Jack Frost!

Need we point out that Super Bowl XLIV ( ... uh, that would be 44, right?) will be played on Sunday, regardless of how much snow is in the Washington metropolitan area? Thus, we must all stock up for the big game. And, since the New Orleans Saints are clearly America's Team this year (sorry, Colts fans), the Beermudgeon is hosting a special Friday tasting featuring the products of Louisiana's own Abita Brewing Co. And, of course, Mardi Gras is less than two weeks away as well. Laissez les bons temps roulées!!! Geaux Saints!!!

On Saturday, we welcome back yet another old favorite brewery, Yards from Philadelphia. Yards was a well-regarded brewery that started in the mid-1990s and was known primary for English-style ales and Revolution-era-style ales named for some of the Founding Fathers. But a split amongst the ownership in 2008 forced remaining owner Tom Kehoe into temporary exile in the contract brewing world until he could open a new brewing facility. Now they're fully online and producing enough beer to be back in our neighborhood. Welcome back, Yards!

As always, check the list below for other new and returning brews. Feel free to call or e-mail with reservations or special requests.

Saturday, February 6, 2010
12 noon - 5 p.m.

  • Coronado Golden Ale: This golden-colored ale is smooth, light in flavor, crisp and very similar to a European-style pilsner. Golden Ale is delicately hopped with traditional pilsner style Czech Saaz hops. ABV: 5.4%, $7.99/6 pk.
  • Dogfish Head Red & White: A big, belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in one of Dogfish Head's giant oak tanks. ABV: 10%, $11.99/750 ml.
  • DeProef Zoetzuur Flemish Ale: From the Flemish translation for "sweet-sour," Zoetzuur is a unique, amber colored ale of multi-yeast strain fermentation, with a hint of Belgian Kriek (cherry) juice added. The brewer has combined these elements in a subtle and complex blend where sour notes are balanced by tart fruit, hints of wood, and a velvety finish. ABV: 7.0%, $11.49/750 ml.
  • Yards IPA: This English-style IPA carries a hoppy kick balanced with a hefty malt backbone. ABV: 7.0%, $9.49/6 pk.
  • Troeg's Nugget Nectar: Finally, we've got enough Nugget Nectar to have it on the Beermudgeon's Table. This annual favorite from Harrisburg, Pa., is a hopped-up version of Troeg's Hopback Amber, full of Nugget, Tomahawk, Warrior, Simcoe and Palisade hops. ABV: 7.5%, $11.99/6 pk.
  • Blue & Gray Chocolate Raspberry Stout:  This is one of our favorite beers specifically brewed for the Valentine's Day holiday by our friends in Fredericksburg, Va. . ABV: 10.0%, $4.49/22 oz.

Beers for tasting and prices are subject to change.
