2009 Conceito Contraste Vinho Branco

The Contraste Branco is a delicious white blend, aged in oak barrels (both French and American) for 10 months, with only 40 percent of the barrels made of new wood.  The vineyards for this wine are all composed of course soils with stony, granite surfaces.  This allows for good root penetration, and the rocky surfaces help prevent soil erosion.  The stones also reflect sun radiation, accumulating warmth during the daytime and gradually releasing it at night.  The wine exhibits lovely flavors of star fruit, passion fruit, and apple skins.  It has a zesty lime note and undercurrents of pink grapefruit.  The granite soils give the wine a flinty minerality which keeps the taste clean and fresh while the mouth-feel allows for a nice round, creamy texture.

2008 Celler Cecilio Billo Priorat

This blend of 35% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 20% Carignan, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged six months in a 50/50 blend of stainless steel and used oak barrels.  The wine has captivating aromas of smoky, roasted meat, wet slate stones, black plum, juicy blueberries and super-ripe black raspberries.  It has a soft, full mouth-feel that simply bursts with flavor – notes of black fruit, slate, smoke, meat and a delicate hint of leather blend together perfectly.  The finish is juicy and fresh, and the smoke characteristics linger nicely after the fruit gradually disappears.  The amount of complexity and flavor found in this wine is unbelievable and pairs deliciously with grilled meats.
